Installing the Mac Screen Saver from the Internet:
The Sampler Installer may be obtained directly from the Internet. To download this software you will need Internet connectivity and a Web browser. After downloading it to your computer, run the Sampler Installer, which installs both the screen saver software and a complementary image sampler collection. For more information go to "http://www.secondnature.com". If you are unable to download this software it may also be purchased on CD-ROM.
Downloading Image Collections from the Internet:
If you are using OS 8.5 or later, additional image collections may be downloaded from the Internet. For more information go to "http://www.secondnature.com". If you are unable to download these collections they may also be purchased on CD-ROM.
NOTE: Image collections cannot be installed or viewed until the screen saver software has been installed. You must use the Sampler Installer to install the screen saver software.
Installing the Mac Screen Saver from a CD-ROM:
Two installers are supplied on the CD-ROM version of this product, a Sampler Installer, and the image Collection Installer. You should always use the Sampler Installer, which installs both the screen saver software and the desired image collection. Additionally, a complementary image sampler collection is always installed with the screen saver software.
NOTE: It is recommended that you always run the installer directly from the CD-ROM. If this is not possible, be sure to copy both the Sampler Installer, and the image Collection Installer, to the same folder on the destination disk. In addition, check to be sure that no other installers named "Collection Installer" are present on the destination disk. If this procedure is not followed, the wrong collection, or even no collection, might be installed by the Sampler Installer.
Un-installing the Mac Screen Saver:
The Sampler Installer can be used to un-install both the screen saver software and all the image collections. If you don't wish to un-install all the collections you must instead use the appropriate Collection Installer(s) to remove the desired collection(s). Choose Uninstall instead of Easy Install from the installer's popup menu and then click the Uninstall button.
Upgrading the Mac Screen Saver:
If you are upgrading from an older version of the screen saver software the installer will retain all your existing image collections.
Under OS X, it is not possible to directly install any image collection(s) from a Second Nature CD-ROM purchased before this screen saver was released. However, it is possible to view these collections along with new ones installed directly under OS X. You must install any old collection(s) onto the companion OS 9 volume used by OS X to support "Classic" applications. From OS X this is done by first opening System Preferences from the Apple menu, clicking the Startup Disk icon, selecting the folder with a "9" on it, and then choosing Restart from the Apple menu. After the OS 9 startup has completed, install your older image collection(s), then use the Startup Disk control panel to return to OS X again.
NOTE: For best results, before returning to OS X, use Slide Show to turn off both Wallpaper and Screen Saver to prevent it from running when OS X "Classic" applications are being used.
Activating the Mac Screen Saver:
After installation, unless OS X is running on your Macintosh, the Second Nature screen saver will be active as soon as the computer is restarted. You may choose to adjust the settings using the Slide Show control panel, but that is not necessary for basic operation.
Under OS X, you must explicitly select the Second Nature screen saver after installation. This is done by opening System Preferences from the Apple menu, clicking the Screen Saver icon, and then choosing Second Nature from the list of screen savers on the left. You may adjust the settings using the Configure button, but that is not necessary for basic operation.
NOTE: Under OS X, if some collections do not appear in the Active Collection popup menu, or changes to settings do not seem to take effect immediately, quit System Preferences. This should force an update and you may then reopen System Preferences, if necessary.
Viewing Artist Information:
Artist information is now furnished through a web-based system accessible within Slide Show. To access this information you will need Internet connectivity and a Web browser. If your Internet connection must be established manually, you should establish a connection before attempting to view artist information.
NOTE: If you are using an earlier system than OS 8.5, and find that web-based artist information is not accessible within Slide Show, you may need to update your Internet software. To perform an update you will need to use the Internet Config utility that was installed in the Slide Show Folder on your startup disk. When this utility is opened it will display a warning message if the Internet Config Extension is outdated or not installed. Click Update or Install, as necessary, and wait for a message confirming success. If no message appears then no update is required. When you are finished, quit the utility.
